How do I search for a company in the Peppol Directory?
In the Peppol Directory you search by name or by Peppol ID, which for a Belgian company is 0208: followed by the enterprise number. The Directory is a public list; our Peppol check also looks in the Peppol registry itself, which decides where invoices arrive.
The Peppol Directory is a public list of companies that can receive documents such as invoices through Peppol. The government itself refers to it.
How do I search?
You can search by name or by Peppol ID. For a Belgian company, you type the code 0208, a colon and the enterprise number, for example 0208:0123456749.
Quicker: enter the enterprise number in our check. It does both lookups at once.
Directory or registry: what’s the difference?
- The Peppol registry decides where an invoice arrives. Software always looks there before it sends an invoice.
- The Peppol Directory is a readable list of names. A company doesn’t have to be in it.
That’s why our check looks in the registry first and only uses the Directory for the name. If a company is in the Directory but not in the registry, the check reports that separately.
What does a registration tell you?
Anyone registered on Peppol is saying they want to receive structured e-invoices. Most invoicing software uses that information to find new recipients automatically. Read more in How do I check if a company is on Peppol?.
