What is a Peppol Access Point?

A Peppol Access Point is a recognised Peppol service provider that connects businesses and public authorities to the Peppol network. You don't connect to it directly yourself: the Access Point usually sits behind your invoicing or accounting software.

Peppol works like a telephone network: to make a call, you need an operator. On Peppol, that operator is called an Access Point or Peppol service provider.

What does an Access Point do?

According to the official FAQ, a Peppol service provider connects businesses and public authorities to the Peppol network, so e-invoices are exchanged securely, quickly and without errors. Its main tasks:

  • compatibility: using open standards such as UBL, so different systems understand each other;
  • security: encrypting the communication;
  • automation: automating the processing of documents, so fewer errors happen.

How do I get an Access Point?

You can’t register on Peppol directly. It always happens through a recognised service provider, in practice usually through your invoicing or accounting software. The government publishes a list of software that is connected to Peppol; that list isn’t a recommendation or a certification.

If your software lets you choose an Access Point yourself, contact a certified service provider. There’s a separate list of those on efactuur.belgium.be.

Your provider registers you under at least your enterprise number, with the code 0208. Read more in How do I register my business on Peppol?.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to choose an Access Point myself?
Usually not. Your software provider takes care of it. Only if your software lets you choose do you contact a certified Peppol service provider yourself.
Which Access Point does a company use?
Our Peppol check doesn't show that as a name, but it does show whether the company is registered and which documents it accepts.
Is the government's software list a recommendation?
No. FPS Finance doesn't recommend any product, and being listed isn't a certification or a judgement of quality. The list only contains software that has signed itself up.
